Alphabet Scouts plus

The main goals and purpose of the Alphabet Scouts program can be understood as follows:

• The program functions as a preschool preparatory playgroup.
• One primary focus is to introduce children to the letters of the alphabet. Children, and specifically Adventurers, will focus on tracing, writing, and learning letter sounds.
• The program uses a variety of methods to help scouts learn about the next letter of the alphabet each week, including listening to read-aloud books, coloring and tracing the letter (uppercase and lowercase), singing and/or chanting, making the letter in sensory materials, interacting with a bin of items beginning with the letter, making a page for a keepsake alphabet portfolio, and playing group games.
• For Adventurers (Ages 4 and 5 who have mastered Alphabet Scouts concepts), the program includes learning more complex skills such as using scissors, gluing, learning how to write and trace names, understanding patterns and mathematical concepts such as calendar and time, and learning letter sounds.
• The program aims to provide a fun and great learning environment.
• It is considered a perfect environment for home schooled children to play and learn and a wonderful way of easing into the homeschool journey.
• Parents feel the program inspires a love of learning and books in their children.
• The program is seen as helping to prepare children for Kindergarten.
• It facilitates building relationships among the children and potentially among parents as well.
• Activities like snack time, lunch, and recess on a fenced-in playground are integrated into the class structure.
