Testimonials of Students who attended Jill Dixon's EAL

I was homeschooled in 6th and 7th grade, and took Mrs. Jill’s English class as a 7th grader. It was such a great experience. I was taught not only vocabulary and grammar, but had the opportunity to write a book - an experience that has had immense encouragement in developing my writing ambitions. In 2008, I graduated Summa cum Laude from college with a 3.94 GPA. Recently, I have been applying for graduate schools to continue my education toward a Master’s degree. I was amazed to discover how I was going back to the Greek and Latin roots taught to me in Mrs. Jill’s class in middle school to help me study for the Graduate Record Exam (GRE)! I called my younger brother, currently a student of Ms. Jill’s and encouraged him to pay close attention to the roots he was learning, because those would help him so much with continuing his education in college, and even Graduate school, as it has for me!

I took Ms. Jill's class from my 3rd grade year to my 8th grade year (I'm in 11th now), and benefited immensely academically, socially and personally. I loved how whatever time period we were studying in history, we would read literature, write papers, and do art projects all concerning that period. The subjects went hand in hand. They complimented each other and that made subjects easier to learn, not to mention it was more fun.

I was accepted to Savannah Arts Academy for high school, and was more than adequately prepared entering my 9th grade year. I had a 15 page research paper assignment to be done in a 2 week period on "The Origin of Man." due the first 9 weeks of school. I sat in class, astounded at questions that my classmates were asking about how to cite sources, etc. I was able to concentrate entirely on the content of my paper and did not have to  waste time on getting stuck on the format because I had been writing research papers with Ms. Jill's guidance since the 7th grade.  Also, essays were a breeze because I had been practicing those in this class for years.

Even beyond the academic aspect, Ms. Jill has so much wisdom and love to share. I learned many priceless life lessons as well as academic knowledge from her.  I could not be more appreciative for all that she has taught me and all that she gave me. When you have a teacher that cares as much as Ms. Jill does, you cannot go wrong.  She not only prepared me for high school, she prepared me for the rest of my life.

Jill Dixon is an incredible person and her class teaches so much and if you have the opportunity to take her class, I highly recommend it.

Throughout my elementary and high school education, Jill Dixon's classes were a major part of my academic life. The critical skills, writing techniques, literary exposures and in-depth vocabulary training bestowed upon me have put me far beyond my peers in college. She has imparted an undying love of the written word in each of her students. She is an emphatic teacher, a gracious encourager, a firm disciplinarian and a loving warmth in the classroom.

Statement below was emailed to Ms. Jill

Hi Mrs. Jill!

I just wanted to let you know about a few academic things that I have been doing. I want to thank you for your class- even two years later I am still seeing the benefits of the two years I took your class. I took the SAT for the last time in December, and I made a perfect score of 800 on the Critical Reading and a 710 on the Writing section!! I also took English 1102 at Armstrong and received an A. I'm currently applying to colleges, and your class work has certainly helped prepare me for all of the short answer questions the applications require.

I cannot thank you enough for your class- it really has changed my life, and I would recommend it to anyone!
